Jamil is a filmmaker and artist whose work explores memory, diaspora, and the ephemerality of home to bridge the language in-between scripted and non-scripted work. His work has screened globally including the Museum of Modern Art, Film at Lincoln Center, Walker Arts Center, Locarno Film Fest, Cannes’ Directors Fortnight, BFI, Telluride, New York Film Festival and Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival—where Gramercy, a film he co-wrote and co-directed, won the 2021 Labo Competition’s Grand Prix. Jamil’s latest short, as time passes, world premiered at 2022 Cannes’ Directors Fortnight followed by the New York Film Festival, MoMA PS1’s “Open House” with SHASHA Movies and BAM Film’s February 2024 slate with Alfreda’s Cinema. 

Under the moniker of Seneca Village Pictures, Jamil and filmmaking partner, Pat Heywood, are currently in production their first experimental project, Waking Up From a Dream. Jamil co-founded a book publishing house with Max Friedman called KNOW, creating their first monograph in 2020. Jamil was raised in Germany and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
